Word Finder 4–7 letter words from the letters you know
Enter the letters you are sure of, the letters that are in the word but somewhere else, and the letters that are out. Common words come first, most frequent first, with a short meaning; rarer words are folded away below them.
How to copy a word-game board into the boxes
- Blue (right spot) tiles go in row 1, in the same position.
- Amber (wrong spot) tiles go in row 2, under the position where they appeared. If a letter was amber in several guesses, put it in each of those boxes: the word must contain it, just not in any box it is listed under.
- Grey (not in word) letters all go in box 3. If you typed a letter twice and only one copy lit up, the grey copy just means the letter appears once; the finder never rules out a letter you also marked blue or amber, so it is safe either way.
WordMaster uses blue and amber instead of green and yellow so colour-blind players can tell them apart. Green and yellow from other Wordle-style games map the same way.
Three games, solved with the finder
These use the game's own scoring. Before the first guess all 6,244 five-letter words are possible; each row shows how many are left after that guess.
| Guess | Result | Left (common) |
|---|---|---|
| CRANE | CRANE | 36 (20) BLANK, PLANS, PLANT, STAND, THANK, GIANT… |
| SLANT | SLANT | 1 (1) |
| Guess | Result | Left (common) |
|---|---|---|
| CRANE | CRANE | 67 (37) HORSE, ROUTE, SERVE, STORE, THERE, THREE… |
| SPOIL | SPOIL | 3 (3) STORE, SWORE, SHORE… |
| SHORE | SHORE | 1 (1) |
| Guess | Result | Left (common) |
|---|---|---|
| CRANE | CRANE | 738 (436) BOOKS, BUILD, BUILT, DIGIT, DITTO, DOUBT… |
| LIGHT | LIGHT | 32 (12) FIZZY, DISKS, DIZZY, JIFFY, KIOSK, KIWIS… |
| DUMPY | DUMPY | 4 (2) VIVID, WIDOW… |
As the VIVID game shows, an all-grey first row is not wasted: ruling out five letters at once still cuts thousands of candidates to hundreds, and the next guess should use five fresh letters. Answers with a repeated letter, like the two Vs and two Is in VIVID, tend to leave a few candidates standing until late.

Where the words come from
The search covers about 52,000 English words of 3 to 8 letters, taken from SCOWL, Kevin Atkinson's spell-checker word lists, without proper names, abbreviations or Scrabble-only entries. Every one is accepted as a guess in the WordMaster games. SCOWL grades words from 10 (everyday) to 70 (rare); words at level 35 or below, plus every WordMaster answer, are listed first as common words, most frequent first.
