A complete guide — rules, tile colors, strategies, and all game modes explained.
Guess the secret word in 6 tries or fewer. Each guess must be a valid English word of the correct length. The game tells you after every guess how close you are using colored tiles.
Suppose the secret word is PLANT.
R and A are in the word, but in the wrong spots. C, N, E are not in the word.
R and A are confirmed in positions 2 and 3. L is in the word but not at the end.
Solved in 3 guesses! All green.
Your first word should cover as many common letters as possible. The best starters:
Never repeat a letter in your second guess that was already grey. Use the second guess to test 5 completely new letters you haven't tried yet. This maximizes information before your third guess.
A yellow tile means the letter is definitely in the answer — just not in that position. Try it in every other slot before assuming its position. Common mistake: guessing yellow tiles in the same position again.
Common endings that narrow your search: -ING, -TION, -ER, -ED, -LY, -AL. Common starts: S-, ST-, TR-, CH-, SH-, PL-. If you have confirmed letters that fit a pattern, try building around the pattern rather than guessing randomly.
Each game includes two special buttons below the keyboard:
One shared 5-letter word per day. Resets at midnight. Track your streak.
No daily limit. Fresh random word each round. Play as many times as you want.
Shorter words, fewer combinations. Great for beginners and younger players.
Longer words, exponentially more combinations. For experienced players only.
Guess the word hidden in today's BBC headlines. Context clues from real news.
Themed word sets — Animals, Food, and more. Focused vocabulary practice.
